It’s Time For a Fresh Perspective In The DA’s Office
After sixteen years under one administration, it’s time for a fresh perspective in the DA’s office. The office is understaffed and overworked, and if I am elected, I will ensure that the DA’s office is fully staffed during my first year in office. Through this effort, Salt Lake County residents can rest easy knowing that criminal cases are being handled thoroughly and efficiently. I’m Shawn Robinson, and I’m running for DA because I intend to use my decades of experience as a trial lawyer to bring a new perspective to the Salt Lake County DA’s office.
I believe that the District Attorney’s office has a special responsibility to victims. I believe it is the responsibility of the DA to ensure that victims are given the chance to advocate for themselves at trials and hearings, and if elected, I will prioritize victim advocacy. Additionally, our DA’s office needs to do a better job of communicating with victims. They have a right to know when hearings are occurring, when new developments happen in their cases, and most importantly, what settlement offers are being presented to the accused.
Unfortunately, the current District Attorney has failed to be open and transparent to Salt Lake County residents. When the DA decides to file (or not file) charges in a case, victims deserve to know why. While the factual and legal circumstances may justify a decision not to prosecute, victims deserve to have a full and complete written explanation for how the DA’s office came to that decision. If I am elected, I will restore transparency and public accountability to the DA’s office by providing victims written explanations for the decisions made on their cases.
